Shares of the First Trust NASDAQ-100 Ex-Technology Sector Index Fund (NASDAQ:QQXT) moved higher on Tuesday, rising 1.3 percent as investors rotated into sectors outside of technology. The exchange-traded fund tracks an index that includes companies listed on the NASDAQ-100 but excludes those classified as technology, giving holders exposure to areas such as consumer discretionary, health care, industrials, and telecommunications.
The gain came during a session where broader markets showed mixed direction. Technology heavy indexes struggled at times while defensive and cyclical names found support. That split helped QQXT, since its holdings are not tied to the same chipmakers and software firms that often drive the NASDAQ-100.
Volume in the fund was moderate compared to its average daily turnover. Traders noted that the move was not driven by a single headline but rather by gradual buying across several of its largest components. Consumer names and health care stocks within the portfolio contributed most to the advance.
For investors, the question now is whether this rotation will last. Some analysts argue that non-tech sectors still trade at reasonable valuations relative to growth stocks. Others warn that any broader market pullback could hit all sectors. QQXT remains a niche option for those who want NASDAQ exposure without the heavy technology weighting. Its next move will likely depend on whether money continues to flow into value oriented and defensive parts of the market.
