Shares of networking chips designer Marvell Technology (NASDAQ: MRVL) rose 6.1 percent during the afternoon session after the company revealed plans to demonstrate industry-first 2nm optical interconnect technology aimed at artificial intelligence data center connectivity. The showcase is scheduled for the European Conference on Optical Communication 2026.

The announcement puts Marvell at the front of a race to build faster, more efficient links between the processors and memory that power large AI models. Optical interconnects use light instead of electrical signals to move data, which can cut power use and boost bandwidth as clusters grow to thousands of chips. Moving to a 2nm process node suggests further gains in density and energy efficiency, two constraints that data center operators now treat as critical.

Investors reacted to the news as a sign that Marvell can defend its position in the custom silicon and networking market, where demand for AI infrastructure continues to outpace supply. The company has increasingly positioned itself as a key supplier for hyperscalers building out training and inference systems.
