Local emergency crews spent Monday learning how to use new technology that can cut down the time it takes to find missing children and vulnerable adults. The training session gave police officers, firefighters, and search and rescue volunteers a hands-on look at tools that are changing the way missing person cases are handled.
The focus of the training was on a system that uses a mix of mobile device signals, drone footage, and advanced mapping software. Unlike older methods that rely mostly on ground searches and door-to-door checks, this new approach lets teams zero in on a smaller area much faster. That can make a huge difference in cases where every minute counts, especially when the missing person is a child or someone with dementia or other cognitive issues.
First responders practiced setting up the equipment and running through mock scenarios. They learned how to interpret the data the system pulls in and how to coordinate with each other in real time. The goal is to have the tech ready to go within minutes of getting a call, rather than spending hours trying to piece together where someone might have gone.
Officials say the training is part of a broader push to bring modern tools into everyday emergency response. While the tech is not a replacement for human judgment or community tips, it adds another layer of support that can help bring people home safely. The hope is that with this new capability, future searches will be shorter and less stressful for everyone involved.
