Spotify Technology reported third-quarter 2026 results that met or exceeded its guidance across every major metric, including revenue, monthly active users, subscribers, gross margin and operating income. Executives used the earnings call to point to improving advertising growth, expanding audiobook availability and continued investment in the platform as the main drivers behind the quarter's performance.
The company said advertising revenue showed renewed strength after several uneven periods, helped by better targeting tools and higher demand from brand advertisers. Audiobooks also drew attention, with executives noting that wider availability and deeper catalog integration are encouraging more users to spend time with spoken word content beyond music and podcasts.
Management framed the results as evidence that the company's push beyond music is paying off. Subscriber numbers held steady against guidance, while gross margin improvements suggested that cost discipline and a richer content mix are beginning to show results. Operating income also landed within or above the company's own targets, a sign that investments in podcasting and audiobooks are not weighing on profitability as heavily as some analysts had feared.
Executives were careful not to overpromise on the months ahead, but they expressed confidence that advertising momentum and audiobook adoption can support further growth. The quarter appears to have reassured investors that Spotify can balance expansion into new formats with the financial discipline needed to keep margins moving in the right direction.
