Bharti Airtel has introduced a new postpaid plan that leverages 5G network slicing technology to offer dedicated bandwidth and lower latency for priority users. The service, called Airtel Priority Postpaid, is designed for customers who need consistent high-speed data for work, streaming, or gaming, especially in crowded areas where network congestion can slow down regular connections.
Network slicing is a key feature of 5G that allows operators to create virtual, isolated networks within the same physical infrastructure. Airtel's implementation means that Priority Postpaid subscribers will get a reserved slice of the network, ensuring their traffic is handled with higher priority than standard users. This is expected to reduce lag and packet loss during peak hours.
The company stated that the service is initially available in select cities and will expand based on demand. Priority Postpaid plans start at a higher monthly rental compared to regular postpaid options, reflecting the guaranteed quality of service. Airtel has also bundled additional benefits like unlimited data rollover, access to premium OTT platforms, and international roaming packs.
Industry analysts note that this move positions Airtel to compete more directly with enterprise-focused 5G offerings while also catering to high-end individual users. The launch comes as telecom operators in India look to monetize their 5G investments beyond basic speed improvements. With this service, Airtel aims to set a new benchmark for personalized mobile connectivity in the country.
