Norwegian imaging technology company Muybridge has announced the close of a $16 million Series A financing round. The funding will accelerate the rollout of its software-defined camera platform, which targets sports broadcasting and other real-time visual applications.
The company's technology reimagines traditional camera hardware by shifting core functions to software. This approach allows broadcasters to adjust settings like frame rate, resolution, and dynamic range on the fly without swapping physical lenses or equipment. Muybridge's platform is designed to handle high-speed action in sports, where capturing every millisecond matters for replays and analysis.
Beyond sports, the platform is being tested in areas such as live event production and industrial monitoring, where real-time visual data is critical. The company says its software-defined approach reduces hardware costs and simplifies workflows for production teams.
The Series A round was led by existing investors, with participation from new backers. Muybridge plans to use the funds to expand its engineering team, scale manufacturing, and grow its presence in key markets like the United States and Europe. The company has already partnered with several major sports leagues and broadcasters, though specific names were not disclosed.
Muybridge's CEO stated that the investment validates the shift toward flexible, software-driven imaging systems. The company aims to double its headcount over the next year and expects to deploy its cameras in more live events by the end of 2025.
