Southern California CEO accused of illegally selling US tech to Iranian government

A Southern California technology executive is facing federal charges for allegedly smuggling American-made computer equipment to the Iranian government, including the agency that oversees the country's nuclear program. Jamshid Ghomi, the CEO of a Los Angeles-area tech firm, was arrested this week on accusations that he illegally exported sensitive electronics to Iran in violation of U.S. sanctions.

According to court documents, Ghomi allegedly used his company to purchase high-performance computer servers, networking gear, and other advanced technology from U.S. manufacturers. He then shipped the equipment through a network of front companies in the United Arab Emirates and Turkey to conceal the final destination. The goods eventually ended up with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, the state agency responsible for Iran's nuclear activities.

Prosecutors say the scheme ran for several years and involved millions of dollars in transactions. The charges include conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and money laundering. If convicted, Ghomi could face decades in prison.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to prevent sensitive technology from reaching Iran, especially its nuclear program. The U.S. maintains strict export controls on dual-use items that could have military or nuclear applications. Investigators say Ghomi knew the rules but deliberately bypassed them for profit.

Ghomi is currently in federal custody awaiting a bail hearing. His attorney has not commented on the allegations. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say they are looking into whether other individuals or companies were involved.
