HD Hyundai Robotics and Palantir Team Up to Cut Robot Programming Costs Using AI

HD Hyundai Robotics is working with Palantir Technologies to integrate artificial intelligence, simulation and human engineers' expertise into a new approach to robot programming, a move aimed at sharply reducing the time and cost involved in setting up industrial robots.

The collaboration centers on combining Palantir's data and AI platforms with HD Hyundai Robotics' hardware and engineering knowledge. Under the plan, AI models will assist in generating and refining robot motion and task instructions, while simulation environments allow those instructions to be tested virtually before they are deployed on real equipment. Human engineers remain part of the loop, reviewing and correcting the AI's output so that safety and precision standards are met.

Robot programming has traditionally been a slow, manual process that requires specialized engineers to write and tune code for each task and each machine. That burden grows as manufacturers adopt more flexible production lines with smaller batches and more frequent changeovers. By automating much of the programming work and validating it in simulation, the two companies expect to shorten setup times and lower the engineering hours needed per robot.

The partners also see the effort as a way to make automation more accessible to smaller manufacturers that lack large in-house robotics teams. Instead of relying solely on scarce programming specialists, factories could use AI-assisted tools to configure robots faster and adjust them as production needs change.

Neither company disclosed financial terms or a timeline for rolling out the technology. The project fits a broader push across the industrial sector to apply AI to engineering workflows, where vendors are competing to reduce the cost and complexity of deploying automation.
