DOTHAN, Ala. — Wallace Community College Dothan (WCCD) is set to launch its automotive technology program at Fort Rucker beginning this May, broadening access to career-enhancing training for military personnel and civilians in the region. The initiative aims to equip students with hands-on skills in vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance, addressing a growing demand for qualified automotive technicians in both the civilian and military sectors.
The program will be offered on-site at Fort Rucker, the home of Army Aviation, making it convenient for active-duty soldiers, veterans, and family members to pursue technical education without traveling to the main campus in Dothan. Courses will cover engine performance, electrical systems, brake systems, and computerized diagnostics, using state-of-the-art equipment and industry-standard curricula.
WCCD officials emphasized that the partnership with Fort Rucker aligns with the college’s mission to provide workforce development opportunities that meet local and regional needs. The automotive technology field offers stable career paths with competitive wages, and this expansion is expected to help fill critical skill gaps in the automotive repair industry.
Enrollment for the May cohort is now open. Students who complete the program will earn certificates or associate degrees, preparing them for entry-level positions or advancement in automotive service centers, dealerships, and fleet maintenance operations. The college also plans to offer flexible scheduling to accommodate the unique demands of military life.
This move underscores WCCD’s commitment to serving the educational and economic needs of the Wiregrass area, particularly for those connected to the military community.
